Got the voucher!

Finally reached 14.5k FPPs yesterday and was able to purchase the $250 electronics gift voucher. On its way now so hopefully it arrives in about 3 weeks! Ship Ship!

On the playing side of things im currently almost done recovering from one of the most ridiculous nights of my poker life. Basically i decided to play some FR 20-50bb buy in nl25. I figured it might be good for FPPs and i assumed the standard of play would be quite low. So off i went, buying in for $5 and joining 20 tables. My strategy was simply to play quite tight, especially early position and shove hands like AA-JJ in late position if their had been a previous raise (unless it was under the gun in which case JJ maybe not have been a shove).

Anyway long story short i managed to drop $103 (20 buy ins) in 40 minutes of playing running 16 buy ins under ev. It's always fun when u consistently lose with AK vs AT and AJ (lost aipf on 4 separate occasions) and when A7 beats your KJ when u go all in on a 8JJ flop (turn 9 river 10)

Anyway through grinding back at NL5 im almost back to peak:

lol i think its obvious i should just stick to nl5 at the moment. here is my grinding their for the past month and a bit.

Roll is currently $257 after making a few more cashouts. If i count my total profit and bonuses im +$818 at the moment which is good considering i started with a $35 loan. The next plan is to release my current $50 stellar rewards bonus which im 89% through. Back to the grind!

Grind Grind Grind!

Still grinding in my attempts to get the $250 electronics voucher. Hasn't been completely smooth sailing though with a semi failed shot at 50bb nl25. Basically i ran terribly and ended up break even after like 20k hands.

Already played 45k hands this month and looking to play a ton more! Ive made a few cashouts but the bankroll is currently $347.84. I've racked up over 12,183 FPPs as well so im definitely on the home stretch to get the 14.5k $250 electronic store gift voucher.

BACK!

After a long absence from blogging im back. I've been playing here and there, usually grinding up rolls and withdrawing. It's good to see limits like NL5, NL10 etc are basically unchanged in terms of difficulty. I think NL10 has a few more aggro, spazzy regs now than it did in say 2006 but they are very exploitable.

Anyway here is the current grinding. Started with $35 at NL5 on stars, gradually increasing tables as my roll allowed it.

I've found that I can now 18 table quite comfortably with my dual monitor set up (although after a few hours my eyes/hand get a bit sore haha) so this has been the general strategy at NL5. Once i had $200 i started dabbling at NL10 with good success so now im currently playing NL25.

Overall the plan is to release my current $50 VIP Steller Rewards bonus which i requires i get about 2100 more vpp's. After that im going to try reach Goldstar this month and grind until ive earnt 29k fpps; enough to buy x2 $250 electronic store gift vouchers from the VIP store (ship the 32inch lcd when i do).

So good motivation to grind at the moment.

Our journey continues.....

As the days and weeks past, our hero soon found himself becoming complacent with the monotony of NL2.

"With sick value bets, positional awareness and the occasional soul-read, these donks and weak tight regs are no match for my poker skillz" he grumbled.

It was true: The days of grinding for happy meals at NL2 had started to bore behhh and what was once a distant hope had now become a reality: He was beating the limit over a significant sample.

It was time to rise to the dizzying heights of NL5, where a standard downswing could involve the loss of a family bucket meal at KFC. Yes, the swings were to be great but the winnings were so much sweeter.

Alas it appeared our hero was yet to meet his match. Onwards he progressed through NL10, NL25 and eventually NL50; occasionally stumbling yet never accepting defeat.

He sat atop his throne/ aging leather chair and counted his riches (or what was left, most of it had been spent on a few holidays and clothes/beer). Still behhh was not satisfied and went in search of something more....

and then it appeared....

The SCOOP Tournament
!

Whilst mindlessly browsing the Pokerstars website he came across an ad for a tournament. In 2009 over $50 million had been given away in prize money! Shocked our hero raced to search his bookshelf. At the bottom under a pile of haggard and dog eared no limit cash game books lied his untouched copy of Harrington on Hold'em; Expert Strategy for No-Limit Tournaments.

A new challenge was born:

It was time to ready himself for SCOOP 2010.

Why poker is clearly a game of skill

People say that poker is gambling. It's a game based on luck and "running good". I disagree.

Early in my poker career i was what many would describe as a "fish".

2nd pair was considered the "nuts" and flush draws always hit on the river. Sure, every now and then my opponents would show up with better hand or my draws would miss, but overall i was better than them.....

or not.

Clearly something was wrong. I had heard the stories and seen the photos of people getting rich playing poker. So called 'grinders' winning ridiculous amounts of money each month simply by clicking a few buttons. There had to be something else. Something i hadn't yet discovered about the game i loved so much. Perhaps there was a an element of skill in poker!

It was time to hit the proverbial books and learn how to become the fabled winning poker player i had heard so much about.

Many a dark and stormy night were spent learning studying. While friends partied my time was spent on far more pertinent pursuits. From the benefits of check raising and balancing ranges to the hidden value in 3 betting regulars, i dove deeper and deeper into the realm of poker strategy and unlocked the secrets.

Seasons changed from browning leaves of autumn to the cold harshness of an Australian winter (sometimes it gets below 20 degrees celcius!) After what seemed like an eternity but in reality was 3 days (i think i left my bedroom window open hence the apparent cold snap) i was reborn and my time had come.

I was depositing $50 and taking my new found poker skills to the hallowed No Limit 1c/2c tables.

Many men had tried and failed to conquer the NL2 beast. Men, who dare i say, tilted less and were more patient than I. Nevertheless i needed to take my shot.

The battle waged for many an hour. Swings up and down which would send any normal poker player insane. however something miraculous was happening....

I was winning!

Yes there was undoubtedly a north-easterly trend to my profit graph. Those countless nights spent studying and perfecting my poker skills were finally paying off. Value bets were being called, 2nd pairs were being folded when raised. I was making money! The hard work and discipline were rewarded...

Which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill.

Soon it was time to slay new beasts and conquer greater foe. With my new arsenal of skills and $100 it was time to pit myself against the poker gods who trawled the dark lands of No Limit Holdem 2c/5c.

Tune in next time when our poker hero wages war in the unholy realm known only as NL5!

Grinding as of late.

Took a bit of a break from pokes and have returned. Deposited $100 about a week and a half ago and have spun it north. Basically played a mixture of NL5, NL10 with a bit of NL25 (underolled but meh!)

Looking forward to starting the actual $100 challenge: The Case Ace Project, where i will officially turn $100 into $1k on party poker. Should be starting it very soon!
