making a return soon!

I should be redepositing fairly soon after cashing out my latest roll. My plan for October is to give online poker a good level-headed go. I'll probably deposit $200 somewhere and grind nl10. If i drop to $150 i will drop to nl5.

If i do deposit im making firm rules:

1. Stop playing if i lose +3 buy ins.
2. Move down levels if required.
3. Less time on 2p2 and more playing.
4. Only play when i feel like. Don't feel obligated to play.
5. Finally: Don't overplay. Greater focus on uni work etc.

Overall my goal for october is to extent this $200 to $400. If i can do this i will be satisfied.

TILTTTTTTTTTTTT

Set up for some NL10 tonight with the roll at $192. Lost 4.5 buy ins really quickly through sick sick fucking sick hands. Eg getting KK all in against AQ on a 3 Q 6 board after i have 3 bet the fuck out of the guy preflop. Naturally the Ace rivers. Got AA all in against KQ on a queen high flop and the guy rivers another queen. Numerous other sickening bad beats. Then i sit down at a table and there's a guy shoving every second hand. I wait and pick my spot, getting AJhh on the bb when he is sb. Everyone else folds and he shoves as to be expected. I call and miss the board. He shows 77. Fair enough. He continues his escapade and i get 10's. We get it all in preflop and he makes a flush with 34hh. Awesome. The final blow was my AK against his 88. As to be expected they held and i was left 8 buy ins down at the end of it all. Just played a few hu sng's and dropped another 20. Total damage = $100.

fairly silly poker, but still going ok.

Just got back from seeing "step brother". Seriously one of the funniest movies i have seen all year. Typical Will Ferrell comedy but still hilarious. On the poker front, i revisited an old stomping ground of mine in Tower Poker. Yesterday around noon i decided to withdraw the $161 sitting in my stars account and put it onto tower to take advantage of a $40 bonus. I played about 200 hands and managed to win about $7. Then this evening before the movie i decide to log on and play another session. I was in a funny mood after having 2 exams today and probably shouldn't have been playing poker. Unfortunately i managed to get stuck almost $30 at nl10 after some ridiculous bad beats/ tilt-ish play and decided to visit 25/50c hu. Realllllly bad idea. However i got lucky and managed to win about $40, bringing the roll back to $180.

Im a bit unsure what to do now with my money currently its getting transferred to neteller which will probably take 3 days. I think i'll redeposit it onto stars and grind nl10, unless somewhere else offers me a decent bonus. Probably need the break.

Here's the graph so far (without today's gaming). Unfortunately Tower and poker tracker don't seem to be working too well for me so its only reflective of my stars grinding.

Going well

Haven't played too much, got exams coming soon etc so they are my focus. For the hands i have played i have run/played well. In total i have logged about 5.5k hands and have made $148.25 from a mixture of nl5 (mostly), nl10 & a tiny bit of nl25.

Gonna remain at NL10 for the most part until i hit about $350. Then i'll take a 2 buy in shot at nl25. Hopefully the rungoot continues.

Blehhhhh weekend.

The weekend was fairly messy pokerwise. The roll stood at $118 and as per normal i decided to multitable some NL10. The weekend donks were out in force but instead of sticking to cash games i decided to dabble in some sng's / tourneys. Bad decision.

Lost around $50 playing a couple of hu $11.50 sng's, as well as a few $4.40 180 man sng's and some $5 6 man sng's. Roll plummeted to around $65 - $70. Just fired up a bit of nl25 and managed to win a bit, bringing the roll back to $107. No more sng's and tourneys! :(

Going well

I've decided to follow a slightly aggressive bankroll strategy, atleast for the moment. My roll is only $109 but i think i will give NL10 a shot, dropping down if i fall to $80. At the moment it has worked well: after 600 hands at NL10 i have won $38.15 and am running at 32.01bb. Obviously this isn't sustainable but hopefully i can continue the upward trend.

Expanding my blogroll as well. Looking forward to following the poker adventures on Everton Yorkie who seems to be in a similar spot to me in poker. His link is on the right.

Fresh start

Unfortunately i had to withdraw my previous blog's winnings to pay for a few things. I also decided to have a bit more of a rest from poker and get my head straight. After playing about 29000 hands in August and tilting hard towards the end i thought i had completely recovered by the start of September. However at the onset of another downswing i found myself resorting to old habits (eg 25/50c hu omahaha), which is definitely not +EV. Luckily i managed to have a bit of a win in that department and cashed out around $200 from a $100 initial investment.

I have realized a few things about poker recently. I previously wasn't very realistic when it came to variance; expecting that i should generally be winning all my sessions and if i did lose it shouldn't be more than 3 buy ins maximum. After a lot of reading and discussing on 2p2 is has become fairly clear that variance can be vicious and 10 buy in downswings are not uncommon, even at microstakes. I need to focus on things in the long term. In this light im going to try ignore the swings and only really analyse my game in 10k hand intervals.

Anyhow i deposited a sleazy $50 onto stars about 4 days ago. I ran good, winning like $40, $30 of which i withdrew to buy some shirts on ebay (lol!). Therefore im left with $60.39, or 12 buy ins at my current home NL5! Hopefully i can run decently and start taking shots at NL10 around $150.

Good Start

Played a bit of 1k hands today and managed to run hot; winning just over 5 buy ins at nl10. Got fairly lucky, running KK into AA once aipf and flopping a king. Got KK aipf against QQ as well and they held.

Considering playing about 500 more hands tonight but i have a habit of starting well like this then losing half of it. I suppose if i want to make money from poker i gotta lose this mindsight and just thinking about playing as many hands as i can.

September Goals

If im going to actually build a bankroll if need to cut out emotional poker. Too often i build up a decent roll then run bad for what i see as a long time. This leads to massive tilt which leads to chasing losses at higher limits. In reality these sorts of losing/break even periods are very common in poker at levels like nl20 and nl25.

Tomorrow im depositing $150 on stars and im going to try play 3k hands at nl5. My plan for the month is get to a roll of $500. From here i'll have a crack at nl25 on Stars. Initially i will try get to $200 then play nl10.

My general plan this month is to spend a lot less time stuffing around with poker related things like 2p2 etc and actually play a decent amount of hands. Im aiming to play 30k hands at a minimum.

Gogogogog September.
